The look of Victory
I won’t say it was a pretty triumph but it was a worthy one of celebration, when I crossed over the finish line on Sunday at the Auckland Half Marathon. This year I was “Running for a Cause” to raise money for Mercy Hospice. My initial goal was to raise $1000 but I will actually raise over $1500 with a couple of sponsors willing to double their donations, if I ran faster, than last year. As luck would have it, I ran exactly a minute faster.
I ran a respectable 1.42.24 and was in the top 10% for all runners; top 3% for all female runners and top 2% for my age group. Does this mean I’ll run again next year? Surely not – a year off for this veteran seems a great idea right now.
So thanks to everyone who supported me. I hope you aren’t feeling all my aches and pains. It was all worth it when I crossed the finish line.
Congratulations! A great effort for a good cause – well done!
Bring on next year – just kidding. Thanks.
Thanks so much – it was great to raise money for charity and keep fit at the same time. I am a little tempted to see if I could qualify for New York … now that would be amazing.
Congratulations Yellow Tulip! You are soooo fit, what an awesome time, you should be proud of yourself!!
It is a pretty great feeling once over that finish line. Been nice to have this week off but I’ll find something else to fill my time.
Well done Helen. You did really well to run quicker than last year. After a couple of weeks rest you will be back training for next year! Dave suggested you could do the Hamner Half next year!
Its funny how a couple of days later when you realise how close you are to doing a 1.41 time you think perhaps I can do again next year! Thank Dave for his kind suggestion for Hamner – I have such fond memories of that place.
your dedication, perservance and effort on behalf of others is very inspiring – you are a true warrior and can cross any finish line. Don’t settle for less than the best – love Erin
It is fantastic to set a goal and achieve – all the aches, pains and blisters were worth it and to raise money for a good cause – even better.
Well done! You are fantastic xx
Just wish the blisters would clear up … well worth it though.
