I was just about to go for a run today, when my ‘man friend’ commented that I looked really nice! My first thought was he must be joking – I’m in gym gear, with no make-up on, hair pulled back off my face, with pasty white legs showing (do you get the picture)! I thought he hasn’t commented on my clothes in months; what does he want?
For me when I see someone looking nice, I want to tell them. If friends have bought something new, that I like then I most certainly am the first to admire it. I may even ask to borrow it!
When we are given a compliment, many of us don’t know how to respond back. I am personally getting better at just saying ‘thanks very much’ rather than brushing it off, and being embarrassed, or making some silly comment that is completely inappropriate. I don’t know why but I generally need to quantify/justify how much it cost, or how long I have had the item of clothing. I don’t know why I do this, but it needs to stop.
In my opinion, we could all do with offering a few more compliments these days, so I am going to start first with saying ‘thanks everyone for reading my blog this week’ and ‘don’t you all look lovely’.
