Modern Masters come to Town
I recently went to the Auckland Art Gallery to see the Degas to Dali Art Exhibition, (on until the 10th June 2012) which was the perfect way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon. The artists on display included such greats as Monet, Warhol, Renoir, Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh and Miro. There was so much to admire and be inspired by, but I would have to say that I was particularly taken with the two Dali pictures, that for no other reason, just captured my mind (one aptly being about the inside of a woman’s brain). Pity we couldn’t take photos – but none were allowed.
There is something to be said about ‘art’ and ‘beauty’ being in the eye of the beholder. For me I didn’t really like any of the cubism artworks on display, but with traditional pieces dating from the 1800’s through to the pop art of the 1960’s and 70’s there will be something for everyone. An exhibition not to be missed.
