Australian Tennis Open & Alexander McQueen – a perfect match!!

It was great to be heading back to Melbourne to watch the Australian Open, after a couple of year’s absence. Expecting to see some great tennis matches, some hot summer Aussie weather and meander around the uber cool streets of Melbourne was the plan.

The tennis was fabulous, particularly a couple of the women’s matches that we watched. It didn’t matter that many of the top seeds had lost and were out, as it made the competition more interesting. The weather wasn’t the usual scorching Melbourne summer (this was a good thing) as previous years we have been left sweltering, and end up a sticky, sweaty mess!! When it came to shopping, we were incredibly disappointed as many of the unique boutiques had disappeared and there were empty shops, and ‘FOR LEASE’ signs everywhere. The city wasn’t it’s vibrant self anymore. There were less people around, restaurants weren’t overflowing and the bright lights and buzz of Melbourne was gone. Saying that, we were incredibly lucky to, find, by chance that there was a fashion exhibition on, and what an incredible visual display of beauty it was. Let me tell you more…

If you’re a fan of contemporary art, you won’t want to miss the latest exhibition from Alexander McQueen, showcasing in Melbourne at the National Gallery of Victoria. This talented artist has been making waves in the art world for years, with his unique and thought-provoking pieces, and his latest exhibition is no exception called Mind Mythos Muse.

One of the things that sets McQueen apart from other artists, is his ability to create powerful and emotional works. Whether it is through the use of bold colours, striking imagery or thought-provoking themes, his work always has a way of drawing people in and making you feel something.

The pieces on display were so thought-provoking, emotional and visually striking, and they’re sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone lucky enough to see this show, regardless of whether you love fashion or not.

There was just so much to admire about the sensory overload you felt seeing the incredible craftsmanship on display. From the clothes, to the shoes and headpieces, it was a magical fashion display that I didn’t want to end. It possibly even reignited my love of tartan, which I thought was long gone!!! So, if you’re in Melbourne, it’s on until the 16 April 2023 and in my humble opinion it is one of the best fashion exhibitions I have ever seen. You don’t want to miss it!!

I fell into the art of style quite by accident. There was no defining moment when I decided that I knew what I wanted to do. I want people to feel good about themselves. Many don’t know where to shop and/or how to wear fashion. It has never been solely about cost, but of finding quality at a reasonable price and being able to wear - to suit your own figure, style and fashion. Join me as we explore – What is Style? 1. Hi, glad you enjoyed the tennis and the exhibition – always great to find an unexpected treat! I used to love going to the NGV when I lived in Melbourne! As to the rest, like most places, Melbourne suffered mightily during Covid and is still getting back on its feet. Can only hope it will be back to its fabulous self again soon 🤞. Looking forward to seeing you in tartan (yellow?) 🤣 😃

  2. Thanks for reading my blog friend .. it truly was an unexpected surprise to see the exhibition and I do hope that Melbourne goes back to the busy, vibrant city it was. Yes, my tartan of course will be yellow if I am so brave !!
