When does a size 8 become a size 14?

Sizing Labels

I am not sure what has happened to the shape of my body over the last couple of months. I am generally the same weight, give or take a kilo, which shouldn’t make any difference. However two purchases made in Aussie recently, from two different fashion stores have seen me – for the first time ever, buy two size 14 tops.

I’m not saying there is anything wrong with  being a size 14 – but when I have always been a size 8-10 and I have a chest size that easily fits within the teenage training-bra category, I am trying to figure out how the size 14 fits in with me and my body shape.

One top would be described as casual cotton and is sleeveless with a drawstring around the neck (a little like a hoodie in length and style) but with no sleeves and has a sculptured bottom; the other is a long-sleeved (boxed shaped) work top.  Maybe it is more my style in clothing that is changing (not my body shape)?  I am definitely noticing what waist I did have is slowly disappearing and soon I will be a square bodied, long-legged, flat chested woman – which really doesn’t sound too appealing from where I am sitting.

Denial is a wonderful thing – I will carry on thinking life is wonderful, my body is a well-oiled, fine-tuned machine; and that as each day it ages – its gets wiser and smarter.  Sometimes it is just best to appreciate what you do have, and make the most of it.

I fell into the art of style quite by accident. There was no defining moment when I decided that I knew what I wanted to do. I want people to feel good about themselves. Many don’t know where to shop and/or how to wear fashion. It has never been solely about cost, but of finding quality at a reasonable price and being able to wear - to suit your own figure, style and fashion. Join me as we explore – What is Style? It’s not your body shape at all – it’s the clothing here in Aus. There is no cohesion in sizing whatsoever. I have tops that range from 10 to 14 and bottoms that range from size 6 (!!) to size 12. Go figure! I no longer feel upset if I have to buy a 14 because I know it’s not me, and the next purchase will likely be a 10!! But I did feel a tiny bit happy about the size 6 jeans! I’m only human!!

    • I am sure that I have never been a size 6 (well perhaps once when I was 6). I agree around the sizing as definitely a different in sizes between Aussie and NZ, let alone when we go shopping in the USA. I think there I may be a size 6. It is but a number …

  2. Love your ending sentiments Yellow Tulip… Too true!

  3. Life too short to not be happy and just grateful to be healthy.

  4. We’re sure you should blame it on the clothes, because you are simply gorgeous! We ALL wear various sizes, depending on the clothing brand. Just smile and keep doing YOU!

    XOXO Nensi & Natasha

  5. Thanks girls for your vote of confidence and nice to see you blogging again …
