Create your Perfect Workspace

My Blogging/Writing Space

I’ve done a bit of a renovation at home this last week, which included getting my entire house re-carpeted.  Not an easy task to achieve when you have approximately 325 square metres of space to play around with.

In putting the house back together I wanted to use what existing furniture I had to create a new space where I could write and think; where a summer breeze was welcome and I could wistfully look out the window and dream about my goals and aspirations for the future.

So, to help other budding writers or those keen to start the year with a new focus, here’s how I filled up my new space:

  1. Always good to be inspired by reading a book on a subject that you love.  This gets your motivation and interest to an all-time high.  I got a great book for Christmas written by Yuki Ziv entitled “Blogging your way to the Front Row”.  I read the book from cover to cover within 2 weeks, and it definitely gave me some tips and ideas around how to attract more viewers, how to develop advertising strategies and how to potentially see your blog as a business.
  2. Set your desk up with all essential tools to keep you focused.  My Goals Journal from kikki.K is perfect for keeping me on track.  “Every day do something that will inch you closer to a better tomorrow” are the words that greet me every time I pick up the journal.  My pretty and colourful notepad is perfect for jotting down ideas and I have my memo pad which means some ideas can hop into my bag with me.
  3. Lastly, surround yourself with items or possessions that remind you about what is most important to you.  My desk has photos of my nieces and family; a plaque with a quote from Coco Chanel, a scented candle to help relax and lots of pens and paper.  Plus a clock to remind me how precious time is, and to not waste a moment.

I fell into the art of style quite by accident. There was no defining moment when I decided that I knew what I wanted to do. I want people to feel good about themselves. Many don’t know where to shop and/or how to wear fashion. It has never been solely about cost, but of finding quality at a reasonable price and being able to wear - to suit your own figure, style and fashion. Join me as we explore – What is Style? 1. what a great article!!! I love my desk, I have the “Happy” light on (simulates sunlight as we are in winter) a vision board with images that symbolize the life I want, and who I want to be, a white board for notes and action steps ad a photo of my American dog sitting on Santa’s knee. Right now it is cluttered with homework, a cup of ginger lemon tea, headphones and cd player to listen to my Japanese CD as I have a test tomorrow, and receipts as I try to balance my cheque book. I clear it each night though, as a clean desk is a peaceful mind!

  2. “Clean you house, Clear your mind”,right? Who said it had to be Spring to to a little cleaning and reorganizing? Thanks for inspiring us to stop procrastinating and do a little ‘pre-spring cleaning’ our selves. Have a fabulous Wednesday!

A very timely post – my workspace is very overdue for a massive clean out and declutter! The filing tray is so full it’s in danger of collapsing, the book shelves are groaning under the weight of books, files, storage boxes and photo frames, and there is a huge bag of old paperwork that needs shredding. Add to that a pile of ironing under the ironing board that also lives in the same room and it’s not exactly a place you’d want to be! Your post has made me think that it’s time to stop procrastinating and get it sorted! Thanks! 😃
