Running from Shops to Scenery
A perfect holiday for me is a mixture of exercise and shopping amidst a backdrop of spectacular scenery, and my 3 days in Queenstown ticked all 3 boxes. I found my favourite denim brand, G-star, at a shop called Detour. I must have spent nearly an hour trying on almost every G-star item of clothing that they had in store. I left with 2 skirts, 1 jumper, 1 vest, 1 dress and a belt (oops and a pair of Italian shoes).
Having breakie every morning at Vudu was a great way to start the day and fuel those bones for the all important half marathon. The short drive to picturesque Arrowtown is worth a look; as well as hopping on the TSS Earnslaw (the vintage steamship) for a tour around the mountains and Lake Wakatipu. It is so true what they say – ‘don’t leave home ’till you’ve seen the country’.
It was a pity for all us runners on Saturday that the heavens unfolded with enough rain and puddles to scare away even the most hardened of ducks who were sheltering for cover as we all sloshed by. We were wet, cold, muddy and not remotely interested in enjoying the scenery and magnificent views that were the major attraction for running the race. To not skid down the ramp towards the finish line was an accomplishment, however my lovely white, clean and fairly new Nike running shoes will never be the same again. Can’t wait to run it again next year.
How did you do in the half marathon? Good on you being keen to do it again despite the awful weather! We loved Queenstown when we holidayed there a few years back – so much beautiful scenery and lots to do too. I like the skirt and top ensemble! 😄
I did 1.52 which was a good time – although definitely could do better next time. Top 10% for my age group and female runners and top 20% for all runners isn’t so bad, but next time I won’t be last off the start line …
Good effort! And a goal for next years run to beat your time this year! 😀
Your trip sounded magical, love the scenery photos!
I also really like your purchases, Yellow Tulip, those orange high heels are simply gorgeous. Love your style…
Trip was great and wore the shoes and G-star outfit yesterday to work and today have the dress on so good to see me wearing my new clothes already. Love your comments ….
Sorry to hear the weather was so awful. It is such a beautiful place when the sun is shining. Hopefully will be in a months time when we are down there for almost three weeks. Lovely photos just the same. Pleased you found some goodies to buy!
Fingers crossed for good weather for your trip in a couple of weeks and next year, I am sure that the sun will be shining and I will be faster than my 1.52 this year. Happy with my shopping purchases … who knew Queenstown was a secret shopping destination …
