Fashion Through the Ages
For those that don’t know, the V&A Museum in London is the world’s greatest museum of art and design. It hosts a permanent collection of ‘fashion through the ages’ that is a must-see for anyone interested in fashion design. For a limited time there has also been the opportunity to view an exhibition entitled Ballgowns British Glamour since 1950. There are about 60 gowns on show including designs by Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan and Erdem. Showcasing royal ballgowns as well, the Princess Diana “Elvis Dress‘ designed by Catherine Walker was my favourite – a white beaded dress with matching bolero jacket – absolute elegance. Unfortunately you weren’t allowed to take any photos.
‘Fashion through the ages’ was a fantastic trip down memory lane. ‘What is style’ has changed and evolved, through clothing becoming more practical in design, but also in fabrics and textures used. For me, I enjoyed seeing the fashion from the 1930’s to 1950’s including Dior, Schiaparelli, Balenciaga and Chanel – the craftsmanship and elegance was just beautiful. Enjoy the show.
